Building the fastest growing Tax, Audit & Consulting firm in The Netherlands  |

SITUATION  |

Between 2017 – 2020 we were retained for all the senior hiring requirements at Senior Manager, Director and Partner level for the fastest growing Audit, Tax & Consulting firm in The Netherlands in 2018, 2019 and 2020. This company is globally operating across 120 countries, 820 offices with 48000 staff and the 6th largest global Audit, Tax & Consulting firm. However in the Netherlands the brand name of the firm was relatively unknown, it was a top 30 audit firm, ranking No 24, in The Netherlands when we started working with them in 2017.

TASK  |

Attracting and hiring talented Audit, Tax, M&A and DD professionals in a candidate led market in which all the Big 4 and other audit firms in The Netherlands are fighting for the same candidates in Audit & Tax makes it a true ‘war for talent’. The experienced candidates especially the ones with 7+ years’ experience at manager level and above are receiving about 10 calls per week of all kind of people with potential job opportunities. These candidates can choose where to work and can make it a day job if they answer all those calls and emails.

The career decision they have to make is do I stay at my current firm? Do I move to the other side of the table to a company as e.g. Controller, Finance or Tax Manager? Considering making a career move to another audit firm is not what most candidates are initially dreaming of. This makes the job even harder.

RESULTS  |

We helped them to grow their organization and teams across 11 offices in The Netherlands. In a candidate led marketplace we were able to successfully recruit and place over 30 senior professionals in Tax, Audit and Corporate Finance, M&A, Due Diligence. Most of the candidates were recruited from the Big 4 and some from smaller audit & tax firms. We also helped them finding a Corporate HR Director, a new position within the firm, which was required to further professionalize the company after the merger of two companies in The Netherlands.

We also designed and delivered interview trainings for the Audit & Tax Partners across all services lines in The Netherlands to better interview the so-called ‘passive job seekers’ in this candidate led market place. In the trainings we worked on topics such as:

  • Presentation skills
  • Powerful word tracks
  • Roleplaying

Every training ended with roleplaying as, if you can role play in front of your colleagues, which is always a bit of an awkward and stressful situation, we believe you can do it in the real life as well!
